A Review of “The Mayflower Bride” by Kimberley Woodhouse

The Mayflower Bride

Barbour Books

256 pages

I love it when I read a Christian historical book that gives me a “you are there” feeling. I experienced this as I followed the characters through their journey to the New World, and felt empathy with them for all they were experiencing during the voyage. The characters of  William and Mary Elizabeth were interesting and likable. They both faced uncertainty and hardship.  There is an encouraging theme of trusting in God that carries throughout the story. There was a historical detail that I wasn’t quite sure about, but it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the story.

I’ve read a similar novels like this one on the Mayflower passage, and an earlier Gilbert Morris series seems to come to mind.  This book holds its own with those. Kimberly Woodhouse is a good author and I felt the dialogue was well-written and fit the time period.

This book is sweet and clean. I’d have no hesitation for a teenage girl to read it. At only 256 pages, it’s an easier read than some of the more involved historical novels I’ve read. It’s a good start to a new series, and I’m looking forward to the next book.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher for review.  I was not required to give a positive review.  This is my honest opinon of the book.
