As most of you remember, United Airlines Flight 93 was part of the terrorist attack on America on September 11, 2001. The passenger airliner was hijacked by terrorists over Pennsylvania or Ohio during it’s flight from Newark, NJ to San Francisco, CA. Two airliners had already struck the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and shortly after Flight 93 was hijacked the hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon. It was presumed that Flight 93 was headed for either the White House or the Capitol Building in Washington DC. The brave crew and passengers initiated an assault on the hijackers over Pennsylvania and while unable to take control of the airliner, they were able to thwart the mission of the hijackers and crashed the airliner in Stonycreek Township near Shanksville, PA. We were on our way from Pittsburgh to Lancaster County, in May of this year, and were made aware of the National Memorial and decided to stop and we are so glad we did. The memorial was honoring to the 40 passengers and crew of Flight 93 and their sacrifice to prevent the plane from reaching it’s destination in Washington DC.
