If you have ever seen a John Wayne western, Forrest Gump, Back to the Future III or any multitude of movies, you have seen Monument Valley as the iconic backdrop for film makers across the decades. We almost didn’t go to Monument Valley until our route home was changed due to flooding back in April in Nebraska, but concerned about the roads, we turned South from Moab, Utah and decided to visit Monument Valley. We are so happy that we did! Located in the Navajo Nation that straddles the Utah – Arizona state line, this iconic landscape is accessible by only two ways, a 17 mile scenic drive or if you want to go off the scenic drive, you must go with a Navajo guide. We were fortunate to have a guide by the name of Joseph who knew the area well and viewed petroglyphs and and other ancient dwellings of the area. This was truly a fantastic stop on our trip.
