A Christmas to Treasure
by Rachel J. Good

He married her to care for his children, but she wants to be his wife—and not in name only.

At thirty, Rose Beiler is convinced she’ll never marry. Then she gets the opportunity of her dreams. She had a crush on her best friend’s older brother, Joshua King, for years, but he married someone else and moved away. Now he’s back in town, a widower with four young daughters. The last thing Joshua wants is a wife, but he does need someone to care for his children. His family pressures him to marry Rose, and he agrees, although business struggles and a painful past cause him to stay distant. And his older daughter, who resents having a new mother, does her best to sabotage their relationship.

When Rose discovers Joshua’s money worries, she secretly takes a part-time job to help with the bills and give each child a Christmas gift. Yet, no matter how much she loves and gives, she can’t find a way to Joshua’s heart. Then a brush with danger causes Rose to reevaluate their marriage. Almost losing her makes Joshua realize how much he cares, but is it too late? Can he win her back and make them a family that celebrates the true meaning of season? Or will this be their loneliest Christmas ever?

My Review:

Rose Beiler is 30 years old and still single.  She longs for a husband and family of her own.  Joshua King is a widower with four little girls to raise.  When Joshua’s sister approaches both Rose and Joshua about considering a marriage of convenience, Rose quickly agrees.  She had loved Joshua during their teenage years, and even though it’s a marriage of convenience, Rose is looking forward to the companionship of marriage.  But Joshua has struggles he isn’t sharing with Rose; and Rose’s relationship with Joshua’s oldest daughter is off to a difficult start.  Rose’s expectations of happiness seem very dim, and her dreams of a having a loving family during the Christmas season seems further away than ever before.

I loved the character of Rose.  She’s a caring and unselfish young woman.  Even when her path seems difficult, she always relies on her faith to carry her through. Throughout this whole story, I was hoping that Joshua would finally realize the true treasure he had found in Rose.  This story tugged at my heart, and is a perfect story to highlight the spirit of unselfish giving during Christmas season.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.  All opinions are my own.

Kathy, all I see right now is the Kindle version, but I think I read somewhere that there might be a paperback. I’ll follow up in this and see what I can find out.
