PUBLISHER DESCRIPTION
In the middle of the pain you didn’t cause, the change you didn’t want, the reality you didn’t know was coming . . . your life can still be beautiful. We all have stories full of sorrow and celebration because of situations we’ve faced. But with God, there’s always more than we see being worked out behind the scenes. In Seeing Beautiful Again, New York Times bestselling author Lysa TerKeurst shares how she processed seasons of disappointment and heartbreak, while inviting you to hope again.
Lysa assures us that the aching pain we feel is proof there’s a beautiful remaking already in process if we don’t give up. Through these 50 devotions, Scriptures, prayer prompts, and personal notes from Lysa, you will:
- Gain healthier ways to process your pain and learn to see your situations through truth-based perspectives.
- Disempower the lie that how you feel about your life is the full story by remembering with God there’s always something more true, lovely, and good right now.
- Stop feeling alone in your struggles by spending guided time with God each day alongside Lysa, a friend who will bear witness to your hurts but also help you move on.
While there’s no denying there are parts of our story we’d love to edit out, what if those circumstances are the unlikely ingredients God is using to weave together a greater good we’d never want to miss out on? Together we’ll discover the indescribable gift of our God, who breathes life into even the shattered pieces of our stories, creating something new and more beautiful than ever before.

My Review:
“In the middle of the pain you didn’t cause; the change you didn’t want; or the reality you didn’t know was coming….your life can still be beautiful.” (Quote from the forward of the book)
“We can’t always assume the broken pieces of our life circumstances are terrible and pointless…not with our God.”
(Quote from page 23 in the book)
Reading this devotional book is much like sitting in a small group with the author and having a heartfelt discussion of how God works in our lives during difficult times. Lysa TerKeurst has faced several heartbreaking issues in her life including two major ones: The unwanted breakup of her marriage (which was later reconciled); and a diagnosis of cancer. In this devotional, she freely admits to her struggles and journey through both physical and emotional pain. Yet this has to be one of the most uplifting devotional books I’ve ever read. Drawing principles from scripture, the author gives us a guide of “how to find redemption in every part of your story”. These devotions are not ones that you hurriedly rush through, but take the time to pray through and see how God uses His Word to bring about change in your life.
This is not a deep, verse-by-verse Bible study. It’s meant to be a daily reminder to look for the goodness of God in every part of our lives and the choices we can make to love and praise Him.
Be aware that some of these thoughts are taken from two of her previously published books. However, I like having those thoughts together in this one volume. If you like journaling, the 50 devotions in this book book would give plenty of topics for that.
This book will stay on my favorites shelf and has already become a book that I turn to for wise counsel.

Thank you for this review! I always enjoy good devotionals and this one sounds right up my alley! Coming from 2 broken marriages, my own parents divorcing when I was 18 and multiple abusive relations, and sexual abuse in my past; even though I have turned these over to God, we all know how women’s minds and emotions work. This sounds like a perfect book to use and re-use again. Thank you to Lysa for writing this book and for your review Patti! I will be checking out this book immediately! God bless you both!
