From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.

My Review:
This is author Sami A. Abram’s debut novel for Love Inspired Suspense and the storyline is filled with intrigue and suspense.  Melanie Hutton’s career as a forensic anthropologist had its beginnings from Melanie’s experience as a teenager:  She was held captive by someone who also murdered her best friend, Allison Cooper.  Their cold case had never been solved.  Melanie’s memory loss of that event drew her back to her hometown to join the police force there with the hope that her memory would fully return and finally lead to the identity of the killer.  However, Melanie finds herself in danger from her first day on the job.  Detective Jason Cooper has blamed Melanie for his sister’s death, but now finds himself responsible for protecting Melanie from the almost relentless attacks on her life.  The two must work together to quickly solve the cold case and bring the murderer to justice to save Melanie’s life.

Although I liked Melanie’s character immediately and became involved in her story, I never warmed up to Jason.  His anger and unwillingness to look at Melanie’s story in an objective way really bugged me, although he did completely come around as the story progressed.  However, despite Jason, this book has an absorbing storyline.  The author did a great job with the flashbacks to Melanie’s past and the themes of faith, forgiveness, and hope weave seamlessly throughout the story.  I’ll definitely be looking forward to reading this author’s next book.

Please note this:  Although they are appropriately handled, this book has some intense scenes.  If physical abuse is an emotional trigger for you, be aware of this before you start reading the book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.  All opinions are my own.
