Review of “An Amish Honor: An Amish Romance Inspired by a Beloved Bible Story” by Jennifer Spredemann

Publisher Description

“Joseph King is seventeen and on the verge of attending singings and forming new relationships. He has always been the apple of his father’s eye, which makes life on the family farm with his half-brothers difficult. When circumstances at home become impossible for Joseph, he is forced to begin a new life away from his beloved Amish community. After tragedy befalls him, he wonders if God’s ears are still open to his prayers and if God even has a plan for his life. Will he abandon his faith entirely? Or will he learn to trust God in matters of life and love?

For those who have ever asked God “Why?” and questioned His presence in their lives. An Amish Honor is a story based on faith, hope, and love. An Amish romance loosely based on the true life Biblical story of Joseph.”

My Review:

The author describes this series as “loosely based on stories of actual people mentioned in the Bible”.  I think she did a good job of placing the Biblical story of Joseph in a modern day setting. Before I began reading this book, I was intrigued to see how she could make this story work with Amish characters and values, and I have to say she pulled it off very well.

Just like the real character of Joseph, Joseph King faces hatred from his brothers and untrue accusations.  There’s drama and heartbreak in this storyline.  As I read the story, I was reminded once again that God is always working for us through the times and circumstances of our own lives.  I enjoyed reading this story for its own sake, but also came away encouraged that God can turn intended evil to good for His children.

I’d recommend this one as an encouraging book.

I really enjoy good ‘Amish’ novels. I particularly enjoy when the. ‘Authur’ ventures in to the realm of males. They seem to be a little more complex in the ‘getting to know them’; but the result is nothing but accolades to the Author for taking us on this journey!! I look forward to reading this book and maybe someday doing a job like Patti does so well in the ‘getting us ready’ mode to read; and I’m sure ready for this book!!

Just found another book to add to my TBR list. I love to read stories based on scripture. Great review Patti!
