Finding Comfort in a Surprising God
Our world seems to be unraveling. While we know God is in control, His ways are mysterious and counterintuitive. We simply don’t understand His methods. And that shouldn’t really surprise us. He has told us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways” (Isaiah 55:8).
The unpredictability of God does not need to be threatening or fear-inducing, however… It’s actually good news! God’s surprising nature is a reminder that His wisdom is eternal and His purposes are perfect.

This book has only six chapters, but each chapter is filled with encouragement and wisdom from the Bible. Bill Crowder’s writing style makes it seem as if the reader is part of a personal conversation with the author, listening to him sharing insights on these six “But God” passages. I liked the illustrations he used throughout the book, especially his personal stories. I’m glad to have this book so that I can read it again and take my time mining the truths in each chapter. This is just the book we need for the turbulent times we are currently experiencing.
This book would be great for a small group or Sunday School class, going through the six chapters as a six week study.
