Review of “The Blended Quilt” by Wanda Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter

PUBLISHER DESCRIPTION

Will pursuing Sadie’s dreams mean leaving a romance behind?

Sadie Kuhns has a lot happening in her life. She is creating a unique quilt by blending a traditional Amish pattern with a Hawaiian pattern as a tribute to her time spent in the islands, and she is working on a self-published book. But her relationship with Wyman Kauffman has stagnated after six months of courtship. He can’t seem to commit to a profession that would secure a future, and he is jealous of the time Sadie gives to her own pursuits. Is there really any reason to drag this courtship out? Only time will tell in this new novel from New York Times bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter, writing with her daughter-in-law Jean Brunstetter.

My Review:
I love Wanda Brunstetter’s books, and she’s one of my favorite Amish authors.  I liked several different aspects of this story:  The Amish community that supports each other; the unusual storyline of Sadie being an author and the inheritance she receives; and the close relationship that Sadie shared with her mother.  It was interesting following the choices that Sadie had to make about her “career” as an author and her desire to follow a traditional Amish lifestyle.

There was one drawback to this book for me: No matter how hard I tried, I never connected with Wyman, one of the main characters.  I had a hard time accepting Sadie and Wyman as a couple.  I kept waiting for someone that was a more compatible partner for Sadie to make an appearance in the book.

Despite this, I still enjoyed reading the book. There’s good lessons for us about putting others first and turning to God for His guidance in our lives.  Sadie and Wyman might not be my favorite couple, but I’ll still be looking forward to reading Wanda Brunstetter’s next book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

New York Times bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter’s inspirational romance novels have captured the hearts of millions of readers and based on personal research intended to accurately portray the Amish way of life has made her Amish Country’s Most Beloved Storyteller. Considered one of the founders of the Amish fiction genre, Brunstetter’s fascination with the simple life began when she met her husband, Richard, who grew up in a Mennonite church with close ties to his family’s Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Meeting her new Mennonite sisters-in-law caused the author to yearn for the simpler life. Brunstetter’s desire to explore the Amish culture increased when she discovered that her great-great grandparents were part of the Anabaptist faith. In their travels, she and her husband have become close friends with many Amish people across America, and many of her books are read and trusted by the Amish, who credit her for giving readers a deeper understanding of the people and their customs. Whenever she visits her Amish friends, Brunstetter finds herself drawn to their peaceful lifestyle, sincerity and close family ties, which is in stark contrast to the chaos and busyness that plagues so many modern “Englishers.” Time and time again, Brunstetter loses her heart in the Amish life, and she hopes her readers will, too. The author of nearly 100 books translated in four languages and with more than 10 million copies sold, Brunstetter’s stories consistently earn spots on bestseller lists including New York Times, Publishers Weekly, USA Today, CBA, ECPA and CBD.
