My Review:
I usually don’t read books that have a “rich guy/poor girl” theme, because those types of generally stories don’t appeal to me. But I have enjoyed other books in Susan May Warren’s “Deep Haven” series. Based on that, I gave this book a try. And I have to say, I was entertained all through this book. Things kept happening to the two main characters, Ella and Adrian, that wasn’t their fault and kept me laughing. Their “adventure” in the opening chapter of this book, when they first meet, would fit perfectly in a movie on the Hallmark Channel.
Even though there’s a huge disparity in their financial status, they are both dealing with insecurity from things that happened with their parents as they were growing up. Adrian’s trying to win his dad’s approval; Ella’s just trying to find a place to belong after years of disappointment and struggle with her dad. Both have major plans as to how to be a success in life, but events throw them off their planned schedules of success. One of the things that I appreciated most about this book was the faith aspect of the story. Both Adrian and Ella needed to learn to turn to God in their times of trouble and trust Him to direct their paths. This book is sweet, clean, and encouraging, and I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.
