Despite a career in logistics, Courtney is unprepared to get lost at sea…

A fated trip to the docks with her closest pal Annie leads to disaster. Ship Captain Lex Ford agrees to take Courtney and two of her friends on what was to be a quick trip to test a new boat. A dangerous storm traps them against a reef, damaging communications and stranding them at sea.

Lex knew this was a bad idea…

He hated having people on his ship with him. Ever since his partner left, he doesn’t share his life with anything but the seagulls. So, when Courtney’s friend Rafe offers him a deal on a new boat, he’d rather ignore the offer.

His heart isn’t ready for how he feels about Courtney, and watching her brave the elements after the storm makes him want to protect her. But the last woman he loved just walked away. And what about their age gap? He’s far older than her. The Lord is good at turning bad situations for good, but can even He make this mess right?

This Breakers Head novel is Kari Trumbo’s final novel in the Independence Islands Series featuring five islands, six authors, and a boatload of happily-ever-afters.

The Independence Islands Series: beach reads aren’t just for summer anymore.

My Review:

This book has an intriguing storyline:  Four passengers find themselves stranded on a small boat after being swept out to sea during a severe storm.  With no radio communication and no motor, it takes all their resourcefulness to find a way to survive until they are rescued.

I have to admit that I had the “Gilligan’s Island” theme song going through my mind as I was reading, but this book is much better than that TV show.  I especially became interested in Courtney’s story.  Because of an incident in her past, it had become difficult for Courtney to trust people and she tended to pull away from them.  Being stranded on the boat forced Courtney to completely trust her friends and find a way to help them survive until rescued.  I felt compassion for Courtney, and I enjoyed seeing her grow in both her trust and her faith as the book progressed.  There’s also an unexpected romance that comes about as a result of this situation that completely surprised me.  I had anticipated a different twist to the story, and that surprise added even another layer of interest to find out how the story ended for these characters.

It’s a good ending to this series.  Even if you haven’t read the other books, you can still enjoy this book on its own, but you would enjoy reading the stories of the other characters mentioned in this book.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.  All opinions are my own.
