My Review:

Before you begin reading this suspenseful story by author Dana Mentink, grab a blanket and some hot chocolate.  The main characters, Tanner and Mara, accompanied by Tanner’s K-9 partner Britta, are caught in the middle of a blizzard as they are on the run from two men whose sole purpose is to kill them before they reach safety. The author does a great job of making the reader feel that you, too, are caught in the dangerous cold temperatures and deep snow, shivering along with them.  With cell phone service interrupted because of the intense storm, the trio is on their own as they battle both the weather and the criminals who are pursuing them.

While the dangerous weather conditions do add a layer of danger all throughout the storyline, the author pulled me into the book by giving us two interesting characters to cheer for, Tanner Ford and Mara Gilmore.  I was immediately interested in Mara’s desperate need to stay ahead of danger and her desperation for someone to believe in her and help her.  Tanner’s belief in Mara and his dedication to protecting her was truly admirable.  Also, I always love reading books that feature K-9’s in them, and reading the scenes with Britta was heartwarming.  If you love faith-based mystery and suspense, grab a copy of this page-turner and settle in for a time of adventure as Tana and Mara make their run for safety.

I voluntarily received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit.  All opinions are my own.

More from Dana

What a challenge to write the eighth book in this fabulous Pacific Northwest K-9 Unit series! Writing a continuity (linked books with an overarching mystery) with seven other authors requires us to work closely together which is a rare blessing in this solitary business. There were so many good conversations, emails and texts that went into the construction of this series. Since wilderness escape novels are my favorite, it was great fun to write Tanner, Mara and Boxer Britta’s dramatic survival story. I hope you enjoy the book and the entire series as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you!
